Handling Last-Minute Fit Issues

Emergency prom solutions when something does not fit perfectly

Even with the best planning, fit issues can arise. Here is how to handle them.

First, do not panic. Almost every fit issue with a well-made tuxedo can be resolved by a competent local tailor in one to two days. Malik Alexander ships all trousers with unfinished hems specifically because trouser length is a local adjustment that is simple to make.

Common fit issues and solutions: Trouser length is almost always the first adjustment needed. Take your trousers to any tailor with your prom shoes and have them mark the hem at the correct break. This is a same-day alteration at most tailor shops.

Jacket sleeve length can also be adjusted by a tailor. If the sleeve is slightly long, most tailors can shorten it in one to two days. Jacket body fit adjustments — taking in the sides, adjusting the waist — require more skill but are within the range of most experienced tailors.

If you receive your piece more than two weeks before prom, you have ample time for any adjustment. If you are within a week of prom, call your local tailor first thing in the morning and explain your timeline — most shops will accommodate rush alterations.

The Malik Alexander Triple-Lock measurement verification process is specifically designed to minimize fit issues before production begins. But for any questions or concerns after delivery, text our styling team at 1.888.905.8659 immediately.
